OOC Board of Directors approves the international participation program for the year 2024

 

 

Yesterday morning, “Wednesday,” the Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held its first meeting for this year, headed by Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Zubair, OOC Chairman, who began the meeting with a welcome speech in which he thanked everyone for answering the invitation and attending the meeting, praising the efforts made by OOC General Secretariat and the sub-committees and management. Executive Directors last year, hoping for more cooperation and effort to activate the roles assigned to them. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and its effective initiatives in facilitating all requirements that would support athletes and advance sports in Oman. He congratulated the sports federations and committees on the positive sports results achieved during the year 2023, and appreciated their cooperation and response for the benefit of Omani sports, hoping that this year brings additional hopes and more success and excellence, and that all endeavors will be crowned with benefits for all, and all efforts will come together and integrate and overcome challenges in order to achieve the set goals and objectives.

 

During the meeting, a number of main items on the agenda and priority topics during the next stage were discussed. The minutes of the fourth Board of Directors meeting, which was held on December 20, 2023, were approved, and the implemented decisions and recommendations issued by it were reviewed, and the final account for the financial year ending 2023 was reviewed and the auditor’s report was reviewed.

 

The attendees were briefed on the program of foreign participation for this year, represented in five sports tournaments, which are the 7th Arab Women’s Club Games, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates during the period from February 1 to 11, and the first youth sports tournament in GCC, which will be held in Dubai during the period from February 1 to 11. The period from April 16 to May 2, and the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, which will be held in the French capital, Paris, during the period from July 26 to August 11. In addition to GCC Indoor and Martial Games scheduled to be held during the period from September 30 to October 9 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As well as, the 6th Asian Indoor Games, which will be held in the Thailanld capital, Bangkok, during the period from 21 to 30 November 2024. The Board directed that the High Level Sports and Olympic Planning Committee coordinate with the sports federations and committees to complete the procedures for confirming participation in the scheduled tournaments and follow up on the preparation plans and programs for the national teams and athletes and the expected results from each participation.

 

Regarding the ongoing preparations to participate in the 7th Arab Women’s Club Games, which will be held in the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates; The official delegation was formed, headed by Lujaina bint Mohsen Al Zaabiya, OOC Board member, and participation was approved for the national teams whose federations and sports committees expressed their desire to participate in the tournament, represented in 4 sports: Athletics, Shooting, Fencing, and Karate.

The attendees approved the programs of Oman Olympic Academy for this year, where 7 training courses will be organized in various programs and fields represented in Olympic culture and values, a national coach certificate program, a workshop in governance in sports institutions, a course in sports medicine, a course in sports management (first level), a course on management and organization of sporting events, and a course on sports law.

 

The meeting concluded by reviewing the reports and letters received and discussing the topics that were included in the new business item, including reviewing the annual report on OOC activities for 2023, discussing the separation of Oman Committee for Sports Medicine and Anti-Doping into two committees in accordance with its previous formation, and reviewing the competencies and tasks of each committee.
