OOC Board of Directors appreciates the achievements of athletes in the Asian Games

Today morning, Tuesday, the Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held the 3rd meeting for 2023 at the Committee’s headquarters, headed by Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Zubair, OOC Chairman, who began the meeting with a welcome speech in which he thanked everyone for accepting the invitation and attending the meeting, then touched on the recent participation in the 19th Asian Games. Which was held in the Chinese city of Hangzhou during the period from September 23 to October 8, with seven teams represented in athletics, sailing, hockey, beach volleyball, maritime sports, shooting, and weightlifting. The Board praised the results obtained by the sailing team, consisting of sailors Walid Al Kindi and Musaab Al Hadi, and their crowning of the silver medal for the first time in the history of Oman’s participation in the Asian Games in the 49 boat competitions, in addition to the crowning of the glorious runner Hussein Al Farsi with the bronze medal in the 800 m competition, which is It is the first time that national teams have won two medals in the same Asian tournament. The Board thanked and appreciated all the technical, administrative and medical bodies for their great efforts and guidance they provided to the medal-winning champions. This is the result of great effort and a product of intense and continuous preparation to achieve positive results in the most important Asian forum, and we hope These medals will be the best incentive for the members of the crowned national teams and their counterparts in sailing and athletics athletes and other Omani athletes to exert more effort and generosity to raise the flag of Oman high in such major continental and international sporting forums.

The Board recommended honoring the players who won the silver and bronze medals, and also directed that the competent committee of OOC settle  down with the technical and administrative bodies of the national teams participating in the tournament to conduct accurate technical assessments of the players’ performance and come up with visuals to address and avoid some of the problems that prevented a number of athletes from achieving the expected results of them, and a comprehensive and clear technical report must be submitted within a period of one month from its date to be presented to the Board of Directors.

Then, discussion began on a number of the main items on the agenda and priority topics during the next stage. The minutes of the second Board of Directors meeting, held on August 8, 2023, were approved, and the implemented decisions and recommendations issued by it were reviewed.

The OOC plan and budget for the coming year 2024 was also reviewed and approved, which also included the budget for international participations, and then the committee’s financial position was reviewed until mid-September 2023.

The attendees reviewed the minutes of the meetings of the sub-committees, represented by Oman Olympic Solidarity Committee and Oman Athletes Committee, and they were approved.

In light of the ongoing preparations to host the meetings of GGC NOCs Heads, which will be held during the period from 14 to 17 October, the Secretary-General and the head of the work team forming the event reviewed the latest developments regarding the hosting, and explained that the OOC has completed all logistical, administrative, security and media preparations in cooperation with the relevant authorities.

He also touched on the timetable for the meetings, their venues and the accompanying programme.

He directed the Board of Directors to the importance of unifying efforts and providing all support and facilities to ensure the success of this important sporting event and achieve its desired goals.

OOC 3rd meeting for 2023 concluded with a review of many important topics and messages received and other topics that were included that were received from members of the Board of Directors, regarding which the necessary decisions were taken.
