OOC organizes the Olympic Day 2022 in Sur

 

 

Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by Oman Sports and Active Society Committee, in cooperation with the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, will organize the Olympic Day 2022 in Sur on December 23.

 

The event includes many sporting events and activities, the most important of which are the walking programme, beach soccer, beach volleyball, bicycles and kayaks. The event is expected to witness wide participation from all segments of society.

 

The Olympic Day is one of the basic programs that OOC is keen to organize annually because of its importance in promoting the concepts of sport in society and making it a priority in their public life, promoting public health, spreading the culture of walking and increasing the number of its practitioners, and making exercise and the values and principles of the Olympic movement. One of the components of the general culture of the members of society is thought and practice. OOC is also keen to organize the event in the various governorates of Oman, which is the approach that the Board of Directors always seeks to achieve by involving all citizens and residents of Oman in the activities of this day, as the activities of the Olympic Day were previously organized in Muscat Governorate, Musandam Governorate, and Dhofar Governorate, Al Dhahirah Governorate, Al Batinah North Governorate, and Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

 

The activities will start at 3:30 pm on the Corniche of the wilayat of Sur and will continue until 6 pm. At the end of the event, prizes and certificates will be distributed to the teams and participants in sports and to the attendees.

 

The importance of this event lies in its embodiment of the concept of Olympic activity, the promotion of Olympic values, and the transmission of an educational and cultural message to the community about the many benefits achieved by practicing sports, whether on a personal or social level, and making it a priority in their public life, not only in the competitive field, as well as encouraging and supporting programs that aim to mixing sports with culture and education.

It is worth mentioning that the Olympic Day falls on 23rd of June of each year, which is the anniversary of the founding of International Olympic Committee. The Olympic Day was celebrated for the first time in 1948, as it encourages NOCs to adopt sports, cultural, and educational initiatives.

 

Sport as an important supporter of social issues that affect societies such as education, health promotion, disease control, encouragement and support for women’s participation in sports, environmental preservation, peace and community development.
