OOC organizes “Our Society is Active” event in Dhofar Governorate

 

 

 

Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by Oman Sports and Active Society Committee, will organize on Saturday the “Our Society is Active” event in the Wilayat of Salalah.

The establishment of this event stems from OOC’s keenness to make the practice of sport and the values ​​and principles of the Olympic Movement a component of the general culture of the members of society in thought and practice, and to promote the concepts of sport in the community and make it a priority in their public life.

The event includes many activities and various programmes, where the event of walking a kilometer and a half on the Aten Plain will be held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, Head of Dhofar Municipality and in the presence of the OOC Secretary General and a number of board members, and with the participation of a number of invitees, athletes and those interested in sports and different society segments. The event targets all segments of society with the aim of promoting public health, spreading the culture of walking, increasing the number of its practitioners, and highlighting its role in enhancing immunity and memory, reducing the risk of disease, protecting against heart disease, maintaining a healthy weight and improving mood.

An accompanying exhibition will also be held with the participation of various pioneering sectors such as small and medium enterprises, Omani Women’s Association, and voluntary charitable teams, in addition to organizing many awareness lectures on the importance of exercise and its role in preventing diseases and the most important behaviors and habits that must be followed for a healthy life in coordination with the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate, as well as lectures on the harms of drugs and psychotropic substances in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police.

It is worth noting that Oman Sports and Active Society Committee has developed an action plan for the next phase that includes many activities and programs to spread the culture of practicing sports in coordination with all relevant governmental and private entities and institutions, based on the principle of community partnership for the benefit of all parties, and to achieve its competencies that It is based on the establishment of various events under the slogan “Sports for All” for different age groups in society, and the use of all modern means of communication and social networking sites to spread awareness of the importance of safe sports practice and its positive repercussions on the health, psychological and professional aspects.
