Thomas Bach meets NOCs
Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) Chairman, participated in the meeting held yesterday online between Thomas Bach, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President and National Olympic Committees (NOCs) around the world.
Thomas Bach, who was recently elected as IOC for a second term, presented a summary of the latest developments and special decisions that were discussed at the last IOC meeting, the most important of which was an initiative called “2020 + 5”, which is “15 recommendations” that were approved to make the Olympic Games more appeal to audiences, host cities and sponsors.
The meeting reviewed a number of issues related to Tokyo 2021, most notably the repercussions of Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee’s decision not to allow fans to travel to Tokyo to attend the games in order to prevent the spread of (Covid 19). In the same context, it was stressed that athletes participating in the games are not obligated to take vaccines, but obtaining them will have a significant impact in limiting the spread of the virus.
The meeting witnessed a number of interventions and inquiries by representatives of NOCs on various related issues.
