3rd Youth Olympic Games – Argentina (6-18 October 2018)
In implementation of the decision of the Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), participation in the 3rd Youth Olympic Games that was held in Buenos Aires (Argentina) during the period 6-18 October 2018 was attended by a delegation consisting of 8 participants (4 players and one female), representing three sports, namely athletics. Swimming, windsurfing.
For the first time in the history of Oman’s participation in the Youth Olympic Games, the runner / Mohammed Al Suleimani was able to achieve the required qualification number in the 2000m steeplechase race and the runner / Ali Al Balushi in the 200m race, in the Asian Youth Championship that was held in Thailand in July 2018.
Also, each of the champions: Muhammad bin Nabil Al Balushi – sailing, Lara Al Yafea – swimming, and Shihab Al Din Rizk – swimming, also achieved the eligibility criteria for athletes approved by IOC and IFs in terms of technical level and indicators of qualitative development.
Through the participation of the national teams of the Sultanate of Oman for the youth category in the Youth Olympic Games (2010-2018), the results of this session were the best and most distinguished in terms of official qualification and general ranking in the competitions. Swimming Lara Al Yafea managed to set a new record in the 50m breaststroke race with a time of 37.35 seconds and the previous record of 37.74 seconds.
