Praises the achievements of Oman’s champions in the Paralympic Games and the World Youth Championship
OOC discusses preparing for the elections (2020 + 1 – 2024)
Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) Board of Directors held its second meeting this year today, headed by Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, OOC President, online. The minutes of the committee’s first meeting held on March 21, and the minutes of the committee’s ordinary general assembly meeting held on April 22 last, were approved. The minutes of the meetings of sub-committees represented by the Planning and Following-up Committee, the Finance Committee and other committees were also reviewed, and the necessary decisions were taken with the recommendations contained in the minutes of the meetings.
The attendees reviewed the sequential procedures for holding the general assembly meeting for the electoral cycle (2020 + 1-2024), and the members agreed to start the preliminary procedures for holding the extraordinary general assembly that precedes the meeting of the electoral general assembly. In regard, Board Members reviewed conditions, criteria and controls for selecting sports figures for membership in the General Assembly, as well as for selecting athletes’ representatives for membership in the General Assembly and OOC Board of Directors.
The draft budget for 2022, and many topics included in the new work sheet, including the letter received from GCC General Secretariat regarding the date of the 3rd GCC Games that will be held in Kuwait during the period from January 9-19, 2022. The Board directed the Planning and Following-up Committee to complete the initial procedures for participation in light of the games that were initially approved during the last period after coordination with the sports federations and committees. The Board also decided not to participate in the Winter Olympic Games, which will be held in China from 4-20 February 2022, due to the lack of Winter Games in Oman.
The Board discussed the report submitted by the planning and following-up experts, and the report of the Chef de Mission for the 32nd Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 and the results of this participation. They are reviewed by the Planning and Following-up Committee and then include them in the framework of the report submitted by the Committee. The Board also directed the necessity of sports federations and their technical bodies to begin preparing programs for the development and qualification of the technical levels of national teams and athletes in light of the plans that have been developed to ensure participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, leading to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, with the aim of achieving the desired results.
The Board approved Oman Olympic Academy’s quarterly programs for 2021 represented in 3 courses in sports governance, sports training, management psychology and enhancing work motivation in the administrative field.
Within the framework of the invitation received from the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) to attend the meetings of ANOC General Assembly and the annual ceremony, the Board decided to accept the invitation and participate with a delegation headed by Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, OOC President, and Dr. Farid bin Khamis Al Zadjali, Board Member, to attend in the meetings will be held in Greece from 24-25 October next.
The members reviewed the results of the Sultanate’s participation in the Paralympic Games – Tokyo 2020, which was held from August 24 to September 5. The Board praised the historic achievement of player Mohammed Al-Mashaykhi after being crowned with the bronze medal in the shot put competitions, which is the first medal for the Sultanate in the Paralympic Games and the product of the great efforts made by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Oman Paralympic Committee headed by Dr. Mansour Al-Tawqi, and from the hero of the Sultanate, Muhammad Al-Mashaykhi, who presented an outstanding performance and an honorable achievement for the Sultanate.
Board Members also reviewed the results of the national athletics team that participated in the World Youth Athletics Championships held last August in Kenya. The Board congratulated the Omani runner Ali Al Balushi, who placed fourth in the world in the 100 meters race, appreciating the efforts made by Oman Athletics Federation and its technical staff. In supporting and caring for the athletes, and wishing Ali and all the athletes success and brilliance and achieving more positive results in other International Forums.
