OOC President meets the Sultanate’s delegation participating in the OG
Sayyid Khalid: We count on the Sultanate’s athletes to achieve advanced records and results

Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, President of the Oman Olympic Committee(OOC), met with the Sultanate’s delegation participating in the 32nd Olympic Games to be held in the Japan, Tokyo, from July 23 to August 8, Tuesday at Oman Olympic Academy (OOA), in the presence of Taha bin Sulaiman Al Kishry, OOC Secretary General, Kazem Al Balushi, Chef De Mission, representatives of the national teams participating in Olympic Games (OG), and representatives of local newspapers.
The participation of the national athletics team runner, Mazoon bint Khalfan Al Alawia, in the OG was confirmed after she passed the required criteria to obtain the invitation cards. The Sultanate will participate in the tournament with four sports, namely shooting, athletics, swimming and weightlifting. Barakat bin Mubarak Al Harthy is on the list of athletics team. He will participate in the 100-meter race, and the runner Mazoon bint Khalfan Al-Alawia, who will participate in the 100-meter race, accompanied by their coach, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Houti. The Sultanate is in the national shooting team, Hamad bin Saeed Al Khatri, who will participate in the 50 m rifle competitions, 3 positions, accompanied by his coach Sultan bin Salim Al Rashidi, and the administrator Sulaiman bin Hamad Al Hinai. While the weightlifting list includes the weightlifter Amer bin Salem Al Khanjari, who will participate in the 81kg weight category and coach Mazen bin Humaid Al-Badri.

OOC President- Head of the Sultanate’s delegation in the Tokyo 2021, opened the meeting by welcoming all the attendees, congratulating the five athletes who will represent the Sultanate in the OG after they passed the criteria required to obtain invitation cards, and appreciating the great efforts made during the preparation period by all the technical staff of the teams, in order to prepare the players for the event properly, despite the conditions of the pandemic and its negative effects on the sports sector, including the impact of the preparatory programs for the national teams.
Speaking with members of the Sultanate’s delegation participating in the OG, Sayyid Khalid added: “We count on you a lot to achieve advanced results and high technical levels and to represent the Sultanate in an honorable and appropriate manner in this great international event. We hope that you will be the best representatives for Oman in the event and that you perform the best in this competition and to strive to achieve better personal records and better Omani records, and to benefit from experiences and contact with the best players in the best sports facilities in the world, and be fully confident that the honor of representing Oman is a great honor that you have enjoyed among the 4 and a half million. It will not be achieved for many thousands of athletes in the Sultanate, and it was achieved by you. The National Federations (NF) and OOC succeeded in obtaining the largest possible numbers of invitation cards to participate in this event after coordination with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Sports Federations (INF).”
OOC President said: “The wise government represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, headed by His Highness Sayyid Thi Yazan bin Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, has provided great support to facilitate the Sultanate’s participation in this most prominent international event, and we hope that you will perform the best you have.” In order to honor the name of the Sultanate in the current edition of the OG, and to return to the homeland with a set of advanced results and records and great technical gains.”
He added: “Participation in the OG is an honor that every athlete in the world aspires to, and on an occasion that is repeated every 4 years, and we have been in the Sultanate since the beginning of the prosperous era of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said – and an extension of the renewed Renaissance era led by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, we always strive to make our international sports participations in the best possible way, and if we look forward to improving our Olympic results, we are confident that the future holds many positive steps and better results in the upcoming participations. We count on the NFs to prepare the national teams and their players for optimal preparations for such important events.”
He added: “Our role in the OOC comes as a complement to the efforts made by the NFs. We are trying to harness all obstacles and create favorable conditions in the best international participations for our players. We are currently working with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Youth and NFs to formulate an ambitious work program for OG. The upcoming two events, Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028, are influential, and hope to achieve the first Omani Olympic medal, which we seek to achieve in the 2028 Olympics.”
In his speech, OOC President touched on the current health conditions experienced by the countries worldwide due to the outbreak of Covid-19, where he called on all representatives of the Sultanate’s delegation, including players, coaches and administrators, to adhere to all precautionary health instructions and measures issued by the Organizing Committee (OC) and IOC to ensure the safety of all participants.
He added: “I extend my thanks and appreciation to OOC Secretary General, the Chef De Mission, and OOC administrative and technical staff for everything they have done in order to facilitate participation in light of the challenges imposed by Covid-19, whether in terms of logistical arrangements or technical preparations that were not as much as we hope. It should be because of the recently imposed procedures, but we are optimistic that our participation will bear good fruits and useful experiences for players, administrators and technicians.”
In conclusion, Sayyid Khalid extended his thanks and great gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq for his continuous support to the sport and the athletes in our beloved country Oman and the wise government of His Majesty represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, headed by His Highness Sayyid Thi Yazan bin Haitham bin Tariq, for all the support that has been provided to facilitate the task of the Committee to participate in this major international sport event.
Then the athletes participating in OG gave brief speeches expressing their thanks and appreciation to OOC, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and their NFs for everything they did in order to facilitate their participation in the event. Runner Barakat Al Harthy emphasized his serious endeavor to represent Oman in an honorable manner and achieve advanced results. The shooter Hamad Al-Khateri said: “Participation in the OG is not easy, but we will make a great effort to score better records.” The Weightlifter Amer Al-Khanjari expressed his happiness with his first OG participation, adding that he will do his best in the competitions to raise the name of Oman high. As for the runner, Mazoon Al Alawia, she thanked everyone who contributed to her presence in the OG and promised to show the advanced levels in the competitions.
After that, Kazem Al-Balushi, Chef De Mission, gave a visual presentation in which he explained some information about the event, the requirements before traveling to Tokyo, the procedures upon arrival, during and after the event.
Oman’s delegation to the OG will be headed by Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, OOC President, and the administrative delegation also includes: Taha bin Sulaiman Al Koshary, OOC Secretary General, Kazem bin Muhammad Al Balushi, Chef De Mission, Ali Al Ajmi, Director of OOC President, and Adel Al Balushi, the media delegate.
