Beach Soccer Faces Iran in the Final, While Beach Volleyball Competes for Third Place at the 6th Asian Beach Games
Oman’s national teams enter the decisive stage today at the 6th Asian Beach Games, currently being held in Sanya, China, as the national beach soccer team prepares to face Iran in the final, while the national beach volleyball team will compete in the third-place playoff following the conclusion of the semifinal round.
Oman’s national beach soccer team will play the final match at 4:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, against Iran, after securing its place in the final with a 5–4 victory over Saudi Arabia. Iran, meanwhile, reached the final after recording a dominant 9–1 win over Palestine.
The third-place playoff between Saudi Arabia and Palestine will take place earlier at 2:00 p.m.
Oman’s journey in the tournament began with an emphatic 7–2 victory over Palestine, followed by a 4–1 win against host nation China, before defeating Saudi Arabia 5–4 to book its place in the final.
Iran also enjoyed a strong campaign, opening with a 5–2 win over the United Arab Emirates, followed by a commanding 13–1 victory over Thailand. Iran then edged past Saudi Arabia 2–1 before defeating Palestine 9–1 in the semifinal to secure a place in the final.
Oman national beach soccer team head coach Talib bin Hilal Al-Thanawi expressed his great happiness at the team’s qualification for the final, stating that reaching this stage represents an important milestone in the team’s journey and reflects the hard work carried out by the technical staff, administrative team, and players throughout the preparation period.
He said the team is preparing for a strong challenge against Iran, one of Asia’s top teams, noting that the players are in excellent technical and mental condition for the match. He emphasized that the goal is to win first place and claim the gold medals, while also reviving memories of the 2008 Asian Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia, where Oman won the gold medal in beach soccer.
He added that the squad enjoys high morale and will approach the match with strong ambition and determination to achieve a new accomplishment for Omani football, while maintaining full respect for the Iranian team and its experience and capabilities.
The Oman national beach soccer squad includes Khalid bin Khamis Al-Araimi, Salem bin Mohammed Al-Araimi, Abdulrahman bin Ali Al-Fazari, Younis bin Khamis Al-Awisi, Al-Yaqdhan bin Saif Al-Hindasi, Abdullah bin Masoud Al-Souti, Muslim bin Mahfouz Al-Araimi, Khalfan bin Salem Al-Ghazali, Ahmed bin Rabie Al-Awisi, Majed bin Abdullah Al-Afari, Sami bin Fael Al-Balushi, and Fahad bin Mahfouz Al-Mashikhi.
The team is coached by national coach Talib bin Hilal Al-Thanawi, with يوسف بن عبيد بن خطيب serving as goalkeeper coach, Hamoud bin Nasser Al-Touqi as fitness coach, Mundhir bin Saeed Al-Burwani as physiotherapist, Abdullah bin Ambar Al-Saadi as team manager, Khalid bin Issa Al-Shuhi as administrator, and Brazilian Wendell Da Silva as masseur.
In beach volleyball, Oman missed the chance to reach the final after losing 1–2 to Iran in the semifinal, in a match played under heavy rain that fell before and during the game.
The set scores were 17–21, 21–15, and 13–15. Oman will now play the third-place playoff today, Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., while the final of the competition will be held at 12:00 noon.
The national beach volleyball team is coached by Badr bin Saeed Al-Subhi, with Abdullah bin Khalfan Al-Maawali serving as team administrator. The team consists of players Mazen bin Suleiman Al-Hashmi and Hood bin Rashid Al-Jalboubi.
