Theoretical and Practical Lectures in the First Aid and Resuscitation Course
The Oman Olympic Committee, represented by the Omani Sports Medicine Committee, organized a First Aid and Resuscitation Course at the headquarters of the Omani Olympic Academy from 2 to 3 December, with the participation of a number of male and female representatives from sports federations and committees.
The course was delivered by Ahmed Bouzid, a first aid trainer, and aimed to enhance the field readiness of participants by equipping them with the skills needed to deal with emergency injuries on the field and during sporting events, thereby strengthening athlete safety and ensuring a safer sporting environment.
The program included a comprehensive set of theoretical lectures and practical applications focusing on improving participants’ competence across various aspects of first aid within the sports environment. Sessions covered the fundamental duties and precise roles of first aid providers, as well as methods for maintaining first aid kits and ensuring their readiness at all times, with emphasis placed on personal safety when handling emergency situations.
Practical training was conducted on performing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults. The course also addressed how to manage emergencies resulting from drug overdose, sudden injuries, and environmental conditions such as heat stress and dehydration, in addition to reviewing prevention strategies and risk mitigation methods.
The course concluded by emphasizing the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle as a supporting factor in enhancing overall safety and physical readiness among sports practitioners.
