Bronze for Fatik Jaaboub Leads Oman’s Performance on Tuesday at the Islamic Solidarity Games
Fatik bin Abdulghafour Bait Jaaboub, star of Oman’s national athletics team, shone in the high jump event, securing a well-deserved bronze medal in the finals. His achievement added another moment of pride for the Sultanate of Oman on an action-packed Tuesday at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.
Jaaboub’s strong performance came after a highly competitive showdown, where he delivered consistent and impressive jumps that earned him a place on the podium, reflecting the significant progress of Omani athletics. Expressing his delight, he said: “My ambition was the gold medal, but every championship has its own circumstances. I gave it everything I had—the competition was fierce, yet I managed to win bronze during these national days. I dedicate this medal to the entire nation—its leadership, government, and people striving for excellence.”
In track events, runner Mohammed Al-Sulaimani exited the 800m heats despite a strong effort against elite competitors. Meanwhile, rising star Ali Al-Balushi stole the spotlight once again, qualifying for the 200m final after winning his heat with an impressive time of 20.88 seconds, continuing his remarkable form following his 100m gold that brought early glory to Oman at the Games.
In fencing, Jana Al-Sharjiya bowed out of the épée competition in the quarterfinals. She began strongly, defeating her teammate Salma Al-Dughayshiya 15–6, before falling in a closely contested bout against Uzbekistan’s Sevara Rakhimova, 15–9.
Oman’s fencers continue their campaign in the coming days, with hopes high for more podium finishes at Riyadh 2025.
