OOC Honors Winners of the Olympic Culture and Values Promotion Program

The curtain has fallen on the Olympic Culture and Values Promotion Program, organized by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) through Oman Olympic Academy (OOA), in collaboration with International Olympic Solidarity. The program concluded with a ceremony held last Thursday at the committee’s headquarters, attended by Taha bin Suleiman Al-Kishry, OOC Secretary General.

The closing ceremony celebrated the best initiatives of the program, with awards given to three winning initiatives from the first phase and three from the second phase. This recognition acknowledged the substantial efforts made by participants to promote and enhance Olympic values, meeting the criteria set by the judging panel.

First Phase Winners
In the first phase, Mohammed bin Khalfan Al-Shaqri secured first place for his initiative, “The Summer Football Center at Nizwa Club.” The initiative sought to implement Olympic values such as excellence, friendship, and respect through the sports activities at the center. It also featured a mini-event simulating the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, coinciding with the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The initiative engaged 345 participants.

Second place went to Mohammed bin Zahir Al-Busaidi for his initiative, “Promoting Olympic Values Among School Students,” which aimed to instill these values through activities, seminars, and diverse sports programs.
Third place was awarded to Hajar bint Suleiman Al-Busaidi for her initiative, “The Olympic Values Exhibition.” The exhibition featured miniature events mimicking the Summer Olympic Games, from the Olympic torch relay to the commencement of competitions.

Second Phase Winners
In the second phase, Reem bint Talib Al-Subhi claimed first place for her initiative, “Olympiad of the Stars 2024.” This initiative organized various sports activities involving eight schools, culminating in a closing ceremony to honor competition winners.
Second place was earned by Saleh bin Ali Al-Bassami for his initiative, “Instilling Olympic Values in Physical Education Classes.” This initiative introduced a dedicated corner in each school showcasing information about the Olympic movement and guided teachers to integrate Olympic values into sports days, such as Physical Activity Day and the Unified School Sports Day.

Third place went to Ashwaq bint Humaid Al-Hamidi for her initiative, “Champions of Peace.” This initiative was a sports festival targeting school students, featuring individual and team mini-games and competitions, hosting sports teams, and involving individuals with special needs in these events.

The program was held in Oman in two phases. The first phase was conducted in the first half of last year in the governorates of Muscat, Al-Dakhiliyah, and Al-Dhahirah, while the second phase commenced in the second half of 2024 in the governorates of South and North Al-Batinah and South Al-Sharqiyah. Both phases included training workshops led by Hisham bin Salim Al-Adwani, the project manager accredited by the International Olympic Committee, and Dr. Ali bin Abdulrahman Al-Bakri, the program’s lead lecturer. These workshops saw broad participation from national cadres working in various sports entities and helped raise awareness of Olympic values and their importance in sports and society.

It is worth noting that the Olympic Culture and Values Promotion Program is one of the significant projects supported by the International Olympic Committee. Its implementation in Oman represents an important step in raising awareness of Olympic values within the Omani community. The program reflects OOC commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, friendship, and respect through sports while aiming to continue organizing similar initiatives that contribute to nurturing generations embodying Olympic values in various aspects of life.
