The Election Commission announces the preliminary list of candidates for OOC membership

 

The Elections Committee supervising the elections of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) announced the preliminary list of candidates for membership of the Board of Directors for the electoral cycle (2020+1-2024) at its meeting held yesterday evening, “Tuesday” at OOC, after closing the nomination. The initial list included 15 (fifteen) candidates, including Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Zubair, for the position of OOC President, and His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais bin Tariq Al Said, for the position of OOC Vice President.

As for the membership of the Board of Directors, 7 (seven) candidates representing Sports Federations affiliated with the international sports federations whose sports are included in the Olympic Games program are: Saif bin Sebaa bin Rashid Al Rashidi, President of Oman Cycling Federation, and Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saeed Bamakhalaf, President of Oman table tennis Federation, Engineer Khalfan bin Saleh bin Muhammad Al Naabi, President of Oman Basketball Association, Dr. Marwan bin Jumaa bin Ali Al Jumaa, President of Oman Hockey Association, Dr. Saeed bin Ahmed bin Saad Al Shehri, President of Oman Handball Association, and Engineer Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahim Al Muqbali, President of Oman Volleyball Association, and Mohsen bin Hamad bin Ali Al Masrouri, Vice President of Oman Football Association.

Taha bin Sulaiman Al Kishry, a member of International Swimming Federation, as a member of one of the executive councils of the international sports federations whose sport is included in the Olympic Games, and His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis bin Ali Ambo Saidi, President of Oman School Sports Association, as a representative of one of the sports federations affiliated with International sports whose sports are not included in the program of the Olympic Games.

The candidacy list for membership of the council also included two sports personalities, Qais bin Saud bin Hamad al-Zakwani, and Dr. Farid bin Khamis bin Sonia al-Zadjali, in addition to two female candidates for women’s sports, Saada bint Salem bin Muhammad al-Ismailia, and the honorable Lujaina bint Mohsen bin Haider Darwish al-Zaabiah.

OOC General Assembly, in its regular meeting held on December 27, approved the date for electing OOC Board of Directors on February 28.

It is worth noting that Article No. (35) of OOC statute has stipulated the formation of the board of directors so that it consists of the president and Vice-President who are elected by the general assembly, the Omani member/ Omani members of OOC, if any, and the Omani member/ Omani members in The Executive Board of the international sports federations whose sport is included in the Olympic Games program – if any – with a maximum of two, provided that they are recommended by the General Assembly. An international sport whose sport is included in the Olympic Games, and one representative of sports and quality federations and sports committees affiliated with international sports federations whose sport is not included in the Olympic Games, and one member representing women’s sports elected by the General Assembly – if any – provided that they have experience of not less than 4 years in areas related to women’s sports, and 1 representative for athletes who have participated in one of the last 3 sports tournaments in Olympic or Asian Games will be elected by the Athletes Committee and approved by the General Assembly, in addition to two sports figures who meet the conditions and criteria approved by the General Assembly – if any – without prejudice to the provisions of Item No. 5 of Article No. 38 of the Articles of OOC Statutes.
