Oman Chess Committee
Introduction:
Chess is a game that has become a focal point of global conversation, as it is one of the most intellectually demanding games that relies on concentration and strategic thinking. Through chess, we can measure the progress and civilization of nations.
The game is played on a board divided into 64 squares, typically colored black and white, and consists of 32 pieces divided between two players, each owning 16 pieces: 8 pawns, a king, a queen, 2 knights, 2 rooks, and 2 bishops. The player with the white pieces always starts the game, which concludes when one player successfully checkmates the opponent’s king, leaving it unable to escape.
Chess is a vast science that originated in ancient India and spread to Europe and America, evolving through various stages and rules until it reached its current form. Today, we witness significant interest in chess at the global, regional, and local levels, leading to the establishment of numerous federations and committees that promote and support the game, such as the International Chess Federation, the Asian Chess Federation, and the Arab Chess Federation.
