Oman Sports Medicine Committee

Responsibilities and Duties of the Committee:
In accordance with its scope of work and in alignment with the principles outlined in the Olympic Movement Medical Code and the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)—and in coordination with the Secretary General of the Oman Olympic Committee, the Chief Executive Officer, and the Department of Supporting Committees—the Committee undertakes the following roles and responsibilities:

Preparing and updating the Sports Medicine Regulations in line with the directives and standards issued by the IOC and other competent international medical and sports authorities.

Implementing the Sports Medicine Regulations and promoting awareness of their contents, ensuring that all stakeholders adhere to the established medical and ethical standards, while safeguarding the core principles governing the relationship between athletes and healthcare providers, and prioritizing athletes’ well-being above all other considerations.

Supporting sports federations and committees in facilitating medical and therapeutic interventions, rehabilitation, and recovery programs, in coordination with the Secretary General.

Preparing and approving medical forms and records for athlete monitoring, and coordinating with sports federations to collect, preserve, analyze, and publish medical data and statistics in accordance with international standards.

Contributing to medical and scientific examinations and tests related to talent identification and scientific monitoring of national team athletes, in collaboration with relevant medical institutions.

Adopting and enforcing the Olympic Movement Medical Code, ensuring awareness and compliance among all concerned parties.

Promoting scientific knowledge and research in sports medicine by following the latest research findings and peer-reviewed publications, and sharing them with athletes, practitioners, and administrators.

Training and developing professionals in the field of sports medicine through seminars, lectures, workshops, conferences, and the publication of educational and awareness materials to enhance national expertise.

Elevating medical and preventive awareness among athletes and technical and administrative staff to help prevent injuries and illnesses and reduce recovery time.

Promoting best medical practices within clubs and federations, ensuring that health professionals adhere to recognized professional and ethical standards.

Identifying and adopting modern technologies in the field of sports medicine to improve athletes’ health and reduce potential risks.

Coordinating and collaborating with international medical committees, including the IOC Medical Commission, the OCA Medical Committee, continental and international federations, and medical committees of organizing bodies for competitions in which the Oman Olympic Committee participates.

Encouraging scientific research, authorship, translation, and publication of specialized journals in sports medicine, and strengthening cooperation with medical institutions and organizations both within Oman and abroad.

Proposing Oman’s representation in international medical conferences and events specializing in sports medicine to enhance the standing of the Oman Olympic Committee in this field.

Carrying out any other tasks related to the Committee’s mandate as assigned by the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee.

Engaging experts and specialized entities, locally and internationally, after obtaining approval from the Secretary General, to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the Committee’s objectives.
