Roles and Responsibilities of the Committee:

The Commission exercises its functions in accordance with the regulations governing the Oman Athletes’ Commission, as approved by the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee, and in alignment with the Olympic Charter as well as the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). Its main responsibilities are as follows:

  • Representing athletes within the bodies of the Oman Olympic Committee, particularly current members of the national teams and athletes qualified for regional, continental, international, and Olympic competitions.

  • Coordinating with the Oman Olympic Committee to implement the Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration adopted by the International Olympic Committee at its 133rd Session held in Buenos Aires in October 2018, and keeping abreast of any subsequent updates.

  • Providing advice to the Oman Olympic Committee and its subcommittees on matters concerning athletes, in order to enhance the efficiency of related decisions and policies.

  • Promoting and safeguarding the interests and rights of athletes in coordination with the Oman Olympic Committee, ensuring their protection during and after their sporting careers.

  • Acting as a liaison to facilitate communication and exchange of views between athletes and the Oman Olympic Committee, and advising on athlete-related policies and programs.

  • Serving as a platform for structured and responsible dialogue among athletes to share ideas and proposals on matters of concern to them, and submitting these to the Board of Directors through official channels.

  • Strengthening the relationship between athletes and the Oman Olympic Committee, ensuring that athletes remain at the center of the national sports movement and its core objective.

  • Collaborating with the Oman Olympic Committee to identify supporters for athletes’ career pathways during and after their athletic endeavors, ensuring sustainable technical, social, and professional support.

  • Proposing the external representation of the Sultanate of Oman by enhancing relations with various regional and international athletes’ organizations (such as the OCA Athletes’ Committee and the IOC Athletes’ Commission), promoting Omani Olympic values and culture, showcasing achievements, and securing support for related initiatives.

  • Contributing to the dissemination of Olympic culture among athletes and raising their awareness of the rules and regulations issued by the IOC and the Oman Olympic Committee, ensuring their understanding of their rights and obligations.

  • Carrying out any additional tasks related to the Commission’s scope of work as assigned by the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee.
