Education, Culture, and Olympic Heritage Committee

Responsibilities and Duties of the Committee:
In accordance with the Statutes of the Oman Olympic Committee, and in line with the principles of the Olympic Charter and the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the fields of Olympic education, culture, and heritage—and in coordination with the Secretary General, the Chief Executive Officer, and the Department of Supporting Committees—the Committee undertakes the following roles and responsibilities:

Providing advice to the Board of Directors on matters related to Olympic education, culture, and heritage, including arts, history, academic research, and heritage collections, and proposing an executive plan to promote Olympic culture across all governorates and regions of the Sultanate of Oman.

Preparing the Cultural Action Plan of the Oman Olympic Committee, submitting it to the Board of Directors for approval, and following up on its implementation in coordination with relevant entities.

Strengthening institutional cooperation between the Oman Olympic Committee and national and international bodies concerned with cultural and historical affairs—such as related ministries, universities, research centers, museums, and IOC cultural departments—to disseminate, localize, and link Olympic culture with Omani national heritage.

Developing cultural activities within the Omani Olympic movement by creating innovative initiatives and projects that complement sports and youth programs and reflect Omani national identity.

Coordinating with the Ministry of Education, universities, and academic institutions to advance physical and sports education, and to integrate sports and Olympic values into school and university curricula.

Encouraging scientific research, authorship, translation, and publication of journals and specialized studies on sports and Olympic culture and heritage, thereby contributing to the establishment of a national knowledge base connected to the Olympic movement.

Promoting Olympic values through various media and communication channels, and enhancing the role of sport and physical activity as tools for social, youth, and educational development.

Implementing Olympic values education programs, and training teachers and educators to integrate these values and related life skills into the educational process.

Coordinating with the Olympic Museum Management to design and implement educational and awareness programs through the museum’s initiatives.

Proposing programs and activities that integrate the Olympic Museum into school, university, tourism, and cultural programs organized by the Committee.

Proposing Oman’s representation in regional and international events and conferences related to Olympic culture, heritage, and sports museums, in order to enhance the presence and visibility of the Oman Olympic Committee in this field.

Carrying out any other tasks related to the Committee’s mandate as assigned by the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee.

Engaging experts and specialized institutions, both within the Sultanate of Oman and abroad, to support the successful implementation of the Committee’s work, in coordination with the Secretary General and in accordance with approved procedures.
