The Sultanate of Oman Participates in the Opening Ceremony of the Asian Beach Games

The Sultanate of Oman participated on Wednesday evening in the opening ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games, hosted by the Chinese city of Sanya from April 22 to 30, with Oman’s national teams competing in beach football, beach volleyball, beach handball, athletics, and triathlon.

Carrying the flag of the Sultanate of Oman during the opening ceremony were Mohammed Al Ghilani, athlete of Oman’s national triathlon team, and Aliya Al Mughairi, athlete of the national athletics team, in this edition of the Games, which features the participation of 1,790 male and female athletes representing 45 countries, competing in 14 sports and 61 different events.

The opening ceremony was held at the Circle Arena in the Tianya Haijiao area, featuring a spectacular artistic performance titled “A Date with the Sea and Sky.” The ceremony included a cultural showcase consisting of three main chapters: Passion of the Sea and Sky, Dreams of the Deep Blue, and Connecting the World, presented in an artistic display reflecting Asia’s cultural diversity and the cultural identity of the city of Sanya.

The ceremony relied on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to deliver an innovative visual experience that blended reality with virtual elements. The performance focused on highlighting the harmonious relationship between humanity and the environment.

The Asian Beach Games were first launched in 2008 in Bali, Indonesia, followed by the second edition hosted by the Sultanate of Oman in 2010. The third edition was held in Haiyang, China, in 2012, followed by the fourth edition in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2014. The fifth edition was hosted by Nha Trang, Vietnam, in 2016, before the Games were suspended for 10 years and resumed this year, 2026, in Sanya, China.
