OOC Board Reviews Olympic Solidarity Scholarships and Updates on Upcoming Sports Participation
The Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held its second meeting of the year today morning (Tuesday), under the Presidency of His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, OOC President, with the attendance of board members.
His Highness opened the meeting by welcoming the members, praising the efforts made during the past period, and emphasizing the importance of the upcoming stage with its regional, continental, and international sporting commitments. He called for unity of efforts and teamwork in a manner that strengthens Oman’s sporting standing and advances the Olympic movement in the Sultanate.
The Board discussed a number of items on the agenda, most notably the approval of the minutes of the first Executive Office meeting held on 30 July and the decisions and recommendations it contained, as well as follow-up on their implementation.
In line with the requirements of the next stage, aimed at developing the system of work and enhancing efficiency, the Board approved the formation of Sub-Committees to support the Board of Directors. This is intended to activate their roles, broaden their scope of work, and strengthen the institutional performance of the OOC by improving planning and monitoring mechanisms across organizational, technical, and administrative aspects.
The Board also reviewed updates on the Olympic Solidarity Scholarships for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, underscoring their importance in enabling Omani athletes to undergo comprehensive preparation programs that meet the demands of international competition. The Board welcomed this achievement, considering it an important opportunity to boost athletes’ readiness for continental and global competitions. It commended the efforts that led to securing 10 full scholarships for athletes in athletics, fencing, and taekwondo—exceeding the usual cap of six scholarships per national Olympic committee as outlined by Olympic Solidarity regulations. The Board urged the beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity and fully utilize the training programs and support provided to enhance their chances of qualification and effective participation in the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
The meeting also addressed preparations for Oman’s participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, to be hosted in the Kingdom of Bahrain from 22 to 31 October 2025. Oman will compete in six sports: athletics, golf, e-sports, aquatics, taekwondo, and equestrian. The Board stressed the importance of continuing training and preparation programs to ensure strong performances and raise the national level across all participating sports.
Additionally, the Board discussed Oman’s planned participation in the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 7 to 21 November 2025. Members highlighted the significance of this participation in strengthening Oman’s sporting presence at both the regional and international levels and reaffirmed their commitment to monitoring the preparation of national teams to ensure honorable representation and the achievement of the best possible results.
The meeting concluded with a review of reports and incoming correspondence, along with a discussion of new agenda items, followed by the necessary decisions being taken.
