Oman Olympic Committee Participates in the 37th Meeting of GCC Olympic Committee Presidents

The Oman Olympic Committee participated in the 37th meeting of the Council of Their Highnesses, Excellencies, and Honors – Presidents of the Olympic Committees of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which was held yesterday, Sunday, in the State of Kuwait. The Committee was represented by His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Vice President of the Oman Olympic Committee; Abdullah bin Mohammed Bamakhalef, Secretary-General; and Engineer Khalfan bin Saleh Al-Naabi, Board Member.

During the meeting, the Council reviewed the recommendations raised by the Executive Office and the report prepared by the Organizing Committee of the 3rd GCC Beach Games – Muscat 2025, which were held in Muscat Governorate from April 5 to 11 of this year. The Council expressed its gratitude and appreciation to the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Oman Olympic Committee, for the outstanding efforts in ensuring the success of the Games. The Executive Office and the relevant committees were assigned to study the report and its technical and organizational aspects, challenges, and recommendations, and to take the necessary decisions accordingly.

The Council approved the request submitted by the Qatar Olympic Committee to host the 4th GCC Sports Games next year, stressing the importance of providing all forms of technical and logistical support from the other Olympic Committees to the host country. The Council also emphasized the need to enhance women’s participation, reinforcing the principles of inclusivity and equality in Gulf sports competitions.

Additionally, the Council approved the request from the Kuwait Olympic Committee to host the 2nd GCC Youth Games in 2028, with an emphasis on adhering to technical regulations concerning age categories to ensure balance and fairness among participating countries. It was also agreed to organize educational and cultural programs alongside the Games to promote sporting values and the Olympic spirit among youth participants.

The Council also reviewed a memorandum from the General Secretariat regarding the Sports Law and Administration Conference and approved the United Arab Emirates’ request to host the first edition of the conference next year. The member states were encouraged to participate actively by submitting research papers and studies highlighting successful legal and administrative experiences within the GCC.

Furthermore, the Council examined the Executive Office’s recommendation and the General Secretariat’s memorandum regarding the unified platform for Gulf Women’s Sports, developed by the UAE in collaboration with the GCC member states. The platform aims to spotlight the achievements of Gulf women in the sports sector and to enhance and document women’s sports across the region. The General Secretariat was tasked with coordinating with the Women’s Sports Advisory Committee to submit regular progress reports to the Executive Office. The Olympic Committees of the member states were recommended to provide all necessary support to ensure the platform’s success and to maximize the realization of its intended objectives.

The Council also approved organizing the Gulf Women’s Sports Hackathon as an annual or periodic event under the supervision of the Women’s Sports Advisory Committee. Member states were encouraged to participate with multidisciplinary teams and to provide the necessary training and support for participants. In addition, the Council approved offering awards for the winning projects and supporting the implementation of innovative solutions across the GCC.

On a related note, Abdullah bin Mohammed Bamakhalef, Secretary-General, and Engineer Khalfan bin Saleh Al-Naabi, Board Member, also participated in the 101st meeting of the Executive Office of the Council of GCC Olympic Committee Presidents, which was held the day before yesterday in the State of Kuwait.
