Tomorrow: Election of the Oman Olympic Committee Board of Directors for the 2024–2028 Term

 

The General Assembly of the Oman Olympic Committee convenes its regular meeting for the year 2025 tomorrow, April 22, 2025, at the JW Marriott Hotel – Al Irfan, with the presence of members of the Committee’s Board of Directors, members of the General Assembly, a representative from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in addition to the candidates for membership in the Board of Directors for the 2024–2028 electoral term.

 

This meeting represents a pivotal moment in the journey of the Oman Olympic Committee, as it sets the foundation for a new phase that reflects the institution’s commitment to the highest standards of governance. It also strengthens its efforts in institutional development, broadening participation, and advancing Omani sports regionally and internationally, in alignment with Oman’s comprehensive national vision that places the individual at the center of development and considers sport a powerful tool for promoting values, building capacities, and achieving excellence.

 

The agenda includes the ratification of the minutes of the Extraordinary General Assembly held on February 16, 2025, a review of the annual report for 2024, which includes key administrative and technical achievements during the past year, the presentation of the proposed activity plan for 2025, discussion of the final account for the concluded fiscal year, the auditor’s report, and the estimated budget for the current year.

 

The meeting also includes the election of the new Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee for the upcoming term, based on the final list approved by the Election Committee. His Highness Sayyid Azzan Qais Al Said is expected to be elected by acclamation as President of the Committee, and His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdullah Khamis Ambusaidi as Vice President. A number of members are also set to be elected by acclamation according to the categories stipulated in the statutes: Taha Suleiman Al Kishry and Abdullah Mohammed Bamkhalaf as members of the boards of Olympic sports federations, in addition to Yousuf Awadh Bait Saleem representing non-Olympic sports federations, Khalifa Hamad Al Jabri representing athletes after being elected by the Oman Athletes’ Committee, and Sayyida Sana Hamed Al Busaidi representing women’s sport.

 

As for the six seats allocated to representatives of Olympic sports federations, members are to be elected from among nine candidates representing the relevant federations. They are: Musa Khamis Al Balushi, President of the Oman Handball Federation; Dr. Marwan Juma Al Juma, President of the Oman Hockey Federation; Brigadier (Ret.) Saeed Mohammed Al Hajri, President of the Oman Athletics Federation; Qutaiba Said Al Ghilani, representing the Oman Football Association; Faiz Mohammed bin Mohammed Riyadh, Vice President of the Oman Golf Association; Qais Saud Al Zakwani, representing the Oman Aquatics Federation; Engineer Ibrahim Abdullah Al Maqbali, President of the Oman Volleyball Federation; Engineer Khalfan Salih Al Naabi, President of the Oman Basketball Federation; and Saif Sibaa Al Rashidi, President of the Oman Cycling Federation.

 

In a separate item on the agenda, two individuals will be elected from among three candidates from the category of sports personalities to fill the two seats allocated to this category within the General Assembly for the 2024–2028 term. The list includes Sheikh Bader Ali Al Rawas, Fahd Abdullah Al Raisi, and Jihad Abdullah Al Sheikh.
