Oman Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee

Responsibilities and Duties of the Committee:
The Committee operates within the framework of the National Sports Policy of the Sultanate of Oman and under the mandate of the Oman Olympic Committee, in alignment with the principles of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the programs of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and regional and international initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality in sports. Its roles and responsibilities include the following:

Develop the National Strategy for the Development of Women’s Sport in coordination with government institutions, sports bodies, federations, committees, and clubs, and submit it through the General Secretariat and the Supporting Committees Department to the Board of Directors for approval. The Committee also follows up on implementation, evaluates its impact, and proposes necessary updates in consultation with the Executive Director.

Enhance female representation in decision-making and management positions within the Oman Olympic Committee, sports federations, and clubs, through the General Secretariat and under the supervision of the Executive Director, while striving to achieve internationally recognized gender representation targets.

Promote awareness and integration of women’s sport in Omani society through media and public awareness campaigns, in collaboration with the Media Department of the General Secretariat, to make women’s sports participation a natural part of public life.

Propose and implement training and capacity-building programs for the development of female sports personnel, both administratively and technically, in coordination with relevant local, regional, and international entities, and under the supervision of the General Secretariat and the Supporting Committees Department.

Cooperate with government institutions to activate and support national-level activities and events for women’s sport, through the General Secretariat and under the supervision of the Executive Director.

Strengthen international cooperation and communication with Women’s Sport Committees of the Olympic Council of Asia, the International Olympic Committee, and other regional and international sports organizations, through the General Secretariat and the Board of Directors, to foster knowledge exchange and elevate women’s sport in Oman.

Coordinate with sports federations and games committees through the General Secretariat and the Executive Director to implement training programs for national women’s teams participating in regional, continental, and international events, ensuring their technical readiness.

Organize women’s sports festivals across the governorates of Oman through the General Secretariat and the Supporting Committees Department, and introduce innovative and engaging programs to expand women’s participation in sports.

Ensure that sports facilities, stadiums, and halls are equipped and managed in ways that respect the cultural and social context of Omani women, in coordination with relevant authorities through the General Secretariat and the Executive Director, encouraging sustainable sports participation.

Propose Omani representation in regional, continental, and international meetings and events related to women’s sport, and ensure active participation in the work of relevant organizations and institutions, through the official channels of the Oman Olympic Committee and in coordination with the General Secretariat.

Seek the expertise of specialized professionals and institutions locally, regionally, and internationally, as needed, with the approval of the Executive Director and the endorsement of the General Secretariat, to ensure the successful execution of the Committee’s work and the achievement of its goals.
