OOA Concludes Seminar on Sports Injury Prevention

This evening (Tuesday), the specialized seminar on sports injury prevention, part of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), will conclude. The seminar, organized by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) through the Oman Olympic Academy (OOA), was held over three days at the OOA headquarters. Its aim was to raise awareness about the importance of sports injury prevention, equipping coaches and physiotherapists with the knowledge and skills needed to manage and reduce injuries. Additionally, the seminar sought to improve athletic performance by minimizing injury rates, which in turn supports athletes in maintaining long-term engagement in sports without disruptions or delays caused by injuries.

The significance of this seminar lies in its role in promoting a preventive culture among those involved in the sports sector. Injury prevention helps safeguard athletes’ health and well-being, which is a fundamental aspect of the success of any sports or training program. Given the rise in sports injury rates, acquiring skills in prevention and first-response care is a pressing need for all professionals working in this field.

The seminar witnessed the participation of 22 specialists from various sports organizations and institutions. Dr. Abdulhamid Al-Kitani, a physiotherapy consultant at the Jaba Pain Treatment Center, delivered a series of lectures and interactive sessions that helped participants enhance their skills and knowledge in sports injury prevention.

The seminar covered a range of theoretical and practical topics, including concepts of sports injury prevention, such as acute and chronic injuries, the importance of medical examinations, and muscle strength testing for athletes. It also highlighted the role of metabolism in injury prevention and provided insights into energy production systems essential for the body during sports activities.

On the second day, discussions focused on warm-up and cool-down routines as essential components of sports training. Common injuries and preventive measures were also reviewed, alongside the importance of rehabilitation for known sports injuries in Oman. Emphasis was placed on the use of medical braces and the types of stretching exercises needed to prevent injuries.

Today, the speaker will address the psychological aspects related to sports injuries and their role in minimizing injuries. Additionally, injury prevention exercises, balance and stretching exercises, and the correction of misconceptions about the use of sports equipment and exercises will be discussed.
