Mazoon finish seventh in 100 m sprint event
Confident sprinter Ali for outstanding display in his Olympics Debut
Oman’s women sprinter Mazoon al Alawi finished sevent in the preliminary heat two of the 100m race event on Friday at Stade de France in her third Olympics appearance in Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The 26 years old could not advance to first round competitions after she clocked 12.58 seconds in seventh place. This result was not enough to be among the best four sprinters from four heats to progress into the first round competitions including the top three in all the four heats.
Vietnamese runner Tai Nhi Yen secured first place as she recorded 11.81 seconds. She followed by Grenada’s Halie Hazard in second place with a time of 11.88 seconds. Bo Ya Zhang from Chinese Taipei finished third place after she clocked 11.99 seconds. The top three runners from each group along with the five best times from the four groups advanced to the first round which took place in the afternoon session of the same day. A runner from gulf represented by UAE’s Mariam Karim was in the heat two and she finished ninth with a time of 13.26 seconds.
Mazoon could not break her record which is11.47 seconds as the personal best in the 100m race. Moreover, She did not manage to break her previous timing in the previous Olympic Games as she had finished sixth in the preliminary heats of Group 3 at Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a timing of 12.35 seconds while at Rio 2016 Olympics, she had recorded 12.43 seconds.
Confident Ali set to shine
Oman’s youngster sprinter Ali al Balushi is all set to shine in his Olympic Debut at Paris 2024 Olympics. The 22 years old will compete in the round one of the Men’s 100 meter event which will start 13:55 (Oman time) at at Stade de France.
Ali will eye to deliver his top show as he will be the last athlete from Oman’s to perform in this current Olympic Games after the three athletes concluded their campaign. It is expected that the competitions will be very tough as the sprinter across the world ranking will attend and compete for the Olympic medals. Al Balushi’s spirit and previous records made him in a perfect status to show his best in style in this prestigious and top profile sporting event. He will seek for top desired level and breaking his best personal beside achieving new record.
Al Balushi is underway in his daily warm up sessions at the main track to adapt to the environment and prepare for the Olympic challenge. Coach Fahad al Mashaykhi scheduled the training sessions at the same time as the competition to help Ali adjust and perform strongly.
Advancing in the race
Oman’s domestic runner Ali al Balushi said that he will focus in his Olympic debut to reach the utmost rounds and stage in this competition and set new personal records to add his in my athletic achievements. “ Olympics is a significant milestone that helps me to gain more technical and physical experience. It allows athletes to observe and learn from the world’s top athletics stars, benefit from direct technical interaction and compete against them. Intensive Preparation for Olympics
The actual preparatory and technical program for al Balushi started in August 2023. He focused in 60m indoor race during a training camp in Turkey last January as he broke Omani’srecord with a timing of 6.58 seconds. He had attended Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Iran where he won first place clocking a time of 6.50 seconds to set both Omani and Gulf records. He had several camps domestically from March to April beside some international athletics meets including the Grand Prix in Dubai and few camps in Europe including two camps in Greece, one in the Czech Republic and one in Germany achieving his best time of 10.17 seconds.
Sprinter Ali had participated at the West Asian Championships in Iraq last May and it is followed by camps in France, Italy and Antalya in Turkey during July. Then, he had competed at Arab Youth Championships in Egypt where he managed to win two gold medals with timing of 10.00 seconds in the 100m event and 20.68 seconds in 200m.
