Oman’s delegation arrives UAE to take part in first GCC Youth Games
The Sultanate of Oman delegation arrived in the UAE to take part in the first edition of the GCC Youth Games The delegation consists of more than 200 individuals, including athletes, technical, administrative staff, and medical team, while Oman will participate with 14 individual and team games. The tournament will be held in five Emirates, the capital Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, AL Fujairah and Sharjah, during April 16 to May 2.
Oman’s delegation is headed by Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee, his deputy, Qais Saud al Zakwani, member of the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee, and Taha al Koshari, Secretary-General of the Oman Olympic Committee.
Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) chose 14th games to compete in this edition, some of games are for first time on the external level, includes sailing, football, golf, taekwondo, water sports, athletics, handball, volleyball, basketball, chess, fencing, table tennis, billiards, snooker and equestrian.
Recently OOC held an introductory meeting headed by Taha al Koshari, Secretary-General of the Oman Olympic Committee, delegation director Kadhim al Balushi, in the presence of teams’ administrators and media, technical and medical team, in which they reviewed Oman’s participation in the tournament.
Oman U-17 national football team reached Abu Dhabi to open its journey by meeting the host UAE team on Tuesday, then will play the second match against Kuwaiti on Friday, and the national team will conclude the competitions with Bahraini team, while all matches will be held at Al Nahyan Stadium.
Football team delegation includes Anwar al Habsi, the team’s coach, and his assistant, Musab al Dhamri, Hamdan Beit Said, the team’s manager, Nasser al Abri. The players list includes Ahmed al Rawahi, Fahd al Mashaykhi, Ziad al Matani, Osama al Omari, Mudathir al Batrani, Mohammed al Mashaykhi, Ali al Awaini, Ibrahim al Shamsi, Al Khattab al Rawahi, Yazen al Khalidi, Abdullah al Saadi, Maath al Hinai, Al Yazan al Balushi, Firas al Saadi, Mohammed al Salhi, Al Waleed al Buraida’i, Rabi’ al Mushafiri, Al Mu’tasim al Muqbali, Qais Bayt Shujanah, Ahmed al Omrani, Ibrahim al Tamimi, Suleiman al Kharusi, and Al Hassan al Qasimi.
Oman national Taekwondo team will arrive in Al Fujairah today to begin its program in the tournament during April 16 to 17, the delegation includes 14 individuals, including players and technical and administrative staff. The team will compete in ten weights, 33-37 kg, 37-41 kg, 49-53 kg, 45 kg, 48-51 kg, and 51 kg, 51-55 kg, 45-49 kg, 37-41 kg, and 49-52 kg.
Taekwondo’s delegation includes Mohammed al Kathiri, administrator, Saif al Shamli, administrator, Hareb al Abdali, coach, Adel al Wahaibi, coach, and the players Dawud al Yousifi, Ziad al Balushi, Mohmmad al Hajri, Al Muhannad al Balushi, Al Ezz al Maawali, Qaboos al Balushi, Abdulrahman Mohammed al Jari, Youssef al Zadjali, Anya Al Abdalia, and Fidaa al Barwaniya.
Oman’s delegation has completed all preparations in the UAE to receive national teams, the administrative delegation includes Kadhim al Balushi, delegation director Dubai, Said al Hosani, Said al Harrasi, and Said al Jarjashi.
The first edition of GCC Youth Games committee has approved the volleyball competition schedule, which witnesses the participation of all six GCC teams, which are national team, the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain. The championship competitions are held in a single-round league system, the top three places with the most points are determined.
Volleyball team will open its competition by meeting the hosting UAE team on April 20, three matches will be held in one day, after which they will play against the Kuwaiti team, then against the Qatari team, and then against the Saudi team. The team will conclude its participation by meeting Bahraini team on April 25, and all matches will be held at Al Nasr Club Hall in Dubai.
Handball competitions will be determined on April 18, which will be held at Al Bataeh Club Hall on April 20, with the participation of all six GCC teams. The competition will be held in a single-round league system, to determine the top three places.
National volleyball team, led by coach Islam Mohammed and his assistant Tamer Abdelrasoul. The players are Khalfan al Maamari, Haitham al Ghailani, Mohammed al Sanani, Tamim al Jabri, Al Azhar al Hassani and Nawafed al Maamari, Rashid al Muraiki, Alaa al Buraiki, Salem al Maamari, Ahmed al Balushi, Said Mohammed al Maamari, and Sultan al Toubi.
