OOC successfully concludes the Advanced Sports Management Diploma Program
The Advanced Sports Management Diploma Program was concluded last Thursday evening, which was organized by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by Oman Olympic Academy, in cooperation with the International Olympic Solidarity, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, OOC Vice Chairman, and in the presence of a number of Board members, namely Saif bin Sebaa Al-Rashidi, Dr. Marwan bin Juma Al Juma, and engineer Khalfan bin Saleh Al-Naabi, in addition to lecturer Hisham bin Salem Al-Adwani, the certified director of the Advanced Sports Management Diploma Program, and the program’s participants, who number 22 students from various sports bodies and institutions.
The closing ceremony began with a summary of the program and its seven chapters. Then Hisham Al-Adwani, the program’s authorized director, gave a speech in which he thanked all the participants for their commitment and efforts made over eight months. He also extended his thanks and appreciation to OOC Board of Directors for their unlimited support for this important program and their belief in the importance of qualifying working cadres in sports institutions. We hope that this constructive cooperation will continue to raise the level of performance and raise the quality and efficiency of work in sports institutions.
Omar bin Mubarak Al Shezawi from Oman Football Association delivered a speech on behalf of the program participants, during which he expressed their thanks to the Omani Olympic Committee for its initiative and its endeavor to hold such courses and training programmes, and for the efforts made and harnessing all capabilities and great care in creating the appropriate climate for the success of this event. the program.
After that, the ceremony’s sponsor kindly distributed diploma certificates presented by International Olympic Committee to the participants, in addition to a certificate of participation from the Oman Olympic Academy, a member of the International Olympic Academy.
Qualifying national cadres
His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, OOC Vice Chairman at the closing ceremony, said: “This program is one of the important programs implemented by Oman Olympic Academy, and comes within the framework of activating the projects and initiatives mentioned in the 10th axis of the basic work axes” which is approved by OOC, which is the axis related to the qualification of national administrative and technical cadres specialized in various fields of sports activity.
His Highness pointed out that this important program aims to provide the highest level of development and qualification for participants who work in various specializations and fields of sports management, as the program was designed in accordance with the approved Olympic standards and references and under the supervision of a wide variety of specialists and lecturers accredited by International Olympic Committee.
At the conclusion of his statement, His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said extended his sincere congratulations and blessings to all 22 graduates of the program from various national sports bodies and institutions, wishing them every success in employing their theoretical and practical knowledge acquired from the program in serving the national sports bodies and promoting governance of its performance, in order to achieve the public interest and to advance Omani sports to the highest levels hoped for in light of the high patronage and generous support enjoyed by the youth and sports sector from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.
Preparing sports leaders
Lecturer Hisham bin Salem Al-Adwani, the certified director of the Advanced Sports Management Diploma Program, indicated that the program is considered one of the most important training programs for preparing sports leaders around the world for International Olympic Committee, and was prepared by International Olympic Solidarity through an executive scientific curriculum and framed by supporting sources for organizers and scholars, which ensures the quality of implementation of the program and its outcomes.
He added: “The program included seven semesters and lasted for 8 months, with an average of 3 days per month for each semester. It began on March 19 and ended on October 19, 2023. A group of specialists in the fields of sports from Oman and abroad lectured in the program, covering the six semesters of the program.” The book Management of Olympic Sports Organizations, which is considered the latest book in the sports field and presented by Olympic Solidarity, included various topics and axes, namely organizing the Olympic sports organization, strategic management, human resources management, financial affairs management, the marketing field, and organizing major sporting events. The chapter was allocated The seventh is to present the studies and final projects of the participants and evaluate the overall impact of this program.”
Concerning the objectives of the program, Al-Adwani pointed out that the primary objective is to prepare the legislative and executive leaders in OOC, federations, sports committees, clubs and relevant entities, by providing them with modern skills and concepts in sports management. The program also aims to provide students with methods of scientific research as well as the ability to persuade others. During the presentation of the case study, he intends to apply it in his organization for each chapter of the program.
Hosting specialists
Hisham Al-Adwani mentioned that what distinguished the program was hosting specialists with experience and expertise in some of the diploma classes, where Ahmed Al-Mukhaini, an expert at the Capital Market Authority, Sajjad Al-Lawati, Treasurer of Asian Table Tennis Federation, Qais Al-Maamari, Director of Events at Omantel participated, and the presence of expert Diamil Faye, chief advisor to His Highness Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Saud, President of Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, has greatly contributed to enriching the program has extensive experience in hosting major sports tournaments. He added: “The knowledge, skills and experiences that the participants have acquired must be seen on the ground by applying their studies in their institutions and applying best practices in a manner that is consistent with the capabilities and directions of our sports institution, as International Olympic Committee supports this program due to its belief in the importance of preparing sports leaders in the world. It is prepared in all its details by the International Olympic Solidarity and is organized from time to time, and we in turn adhere to the requirements of the program with some additions that contribute to enriching its outcomes.
Evaluation of final studies
Regarding the level of studies and final projects presented by the participants, Al-Adwani said: “I am very satisfied with the final studies that were presented by the participants, as we are constantly evaluating the participants’ presentations for each chapter of the program, and we have noticed a development in the level of the presentations, so that feedback is being provided. It is reviewed by each participant after each study he submits. He pointed out that the evaluation was carried out through a form designed by International Olympic Solidarity, during which the focus was on a number of criteria, including the ability to present the study, use the content of the chapters to analyze the sports institution, support the presentations with evidence and examples, in addition to providing a clear plan for recommendations and the use of supporting designs and tables. The ability to respond to audience inquiries, etc.
Volleyball strategy
Muhammad bin Yousef Al-Qattan from Al-Arabi Club in the Kuwait Volleyball Federation said: “I participated in the program and acquired many skills, the most important of which is searching for information in a professional manner, using references in the correct way, and how to make a presentation and review it in just five minutes so that it includes the problem and its solution. We also delved into Strategic plans and their greater understanding.”
He added: “My participation in the program contributed to enhancing my skills in the field of sports management, as I can now understand well all the concepts when discussing with sports experts, or when reading any sports book or article, in addition to that I am currently working on a strategy to develop volleyball.”
Regarding the topic of his final study, Al-Qattan indicated that he presented a strategic plan for building a high-level volleyball team, and derived his research from the second semester of the program, where he explained an integrated plan for building the team, by reviewing the basic problem, which is the lack of training hours, analyzing it, and searching for solutions to it.
Clubs friendly to people with disabilities
Mahfouz bint Zayed Al Rasbiyah from Al Kamel and Al Wafi Sports Club said: “One of the most important concepts that I acquired during my participation in the program over a period of 8 months are the concepts and skills related to the management of women’s sporting events in a clear and detailed manner from the administrative and technical aspects, and through what was studied I was able to apply it on the ground.” Reality, knowing the previous mistake and improving it, and the result was the implementation of a distinctive women’s sports event that had a positive impact and in a sustainable way.”
Regarding the topic of her final study that she presented, Al-Rasbiyah said: “I participated in the project (Friendly Clubs for People with Disabilities), which is a project that highlights the inclusion of special activities for people with disabilities (males and females) in the annual plans of sports clubs in the Sultanate of Oman in cooperation with relevant authorities such as associations and centers.” Rehabilitation for people with disabilities is followed up through the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.”
Selection of sports talent
Sawsan bint Ali Al Naabiyah from the General Directorate of Education in Muscat said: “The program added to me the knowledge and leadership skills in sports management with regard to building realistic and applicable strategic goals, in addition to a deep understanding of the basic global principles of good governance of the Olympic movement and sports, change management and information management. Preparing for the strategic planning process, in addition to developing and organizing human resources management.”
She added: “My final study was entitled Sports Selection and Nurturing of School Sports Talents, and it is summarized in several axes that begin with identifying the problem, which is the lack of a clear system for adopting the path of school sports talents, the subjection of the school selection process to passing observation or chance, and also the lack of early detection of gifted people in the early stages of study.” Discovering them at late stages is not appropriate to start preparing them, and thus a large base of sports talent is lost.” She added: “School sports talent does not go beyond the walls of the school or educational institution and ends with the end of the competition. After reviewing and analyzing previous studies, I reached the most important challenges facing school sports talent, which is the lack of support and care from government institutions and the private sector, and I set a number of goals and solutions, including Designing an operational plan for school sports talents in the selection and training process, and preparing a marketing plan for nurturing school sports talents, concerned with nurturing school sports talents and benefiting from the Omani media in order to develop sources of external funding and working to attract investors to sponsorship programs, and exploiting effective marketing leaders in marketing the programs and activities of the sports institution. To support sports talent and involve government and private sector institutions in the marketing process.”
The operating environment of the academies
Mahmoud bin Matar Al Balushi, one of the participants in the program, pointed out the most important concepts and skills that he acquired after completing his studies, such as getting to know in depth the most important aspects of sports management, including organizing the sports institution, the appropriate operating environment, how to develop a strategic plan, as well as other aspects such as financial management, marketing, human resources management, and how to organize major events.
Regarding the topic of his final study, he said: “I presented a study entitled the operational environment in the football academies and schools sector, which boils down to the lack of an official institution to which football academies and schools belong in Oman in order to organize and unify efforts and find a unified work methodology with the aim of producing talents for the national teams.”
