GCC Women’s Sports Committee discuss different developing proposals in Muscat
The Sultanate of Oman, represented by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), hosted the second meeting of the Advisory Committee for Sports of the Women’s Committee in the GCC countries on Saturday as part of the GCC meetings that will take place in Muscat. Beside this meeting, the 97th meeting of the Executive Office (GCC NOCs Secretaries-General) will take place in Muscat on Sunday while the 35th meeting of GCC NOCs Heads will be held in Muscat on Monday.
The Women’s Committee meeting on Saturday at kempinski hotel muscat chaired by Sayyida Sana bint Hamad al Busaidi, Chairman of Oman Women’s Sports, in presence of the GCC Women’s Committees representatives. Oman’s Chairman of Women’s Sports began the meeting with an introductory speech as she said that the previous period of Women’s Committee in the gulf countries witnessed many developments in the field of women’s sports since the announcement of the establishment of women’s sports committees followed by the launch of the first edition of the Gulf tournaments for women’s sports in 2008 in Kuwait. “In addition to the sporting events, the generous initiative of UAE’s Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak to qualify women’s capability and ability in various sports events, which had a great impact on empowering and advancing women technically and administratively at Gulf, regional and global levels,” she ended
Later, the members reviewed the responsibilities of the Advisory Committee for Sports of the Women’s Committee. The main responsibilities which discussed were proposing plans and programs for competitions and sports events and submitting them to the Executive Office for final approval. Also, Supervising the plans and programs of approved competitions and sports events in coordination with
Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Proposing games to be included in the Gulf Sports Games. Supporting, enhancing and raising the standards of women’s teams participating in regional and international tournaments. Spreading awareness and the culture of sports and physical activity among women in the Gulf countries.
Kuwait’s proposal was one of the discussed items during the meeting as they proposed organising sporting tournament for the women in different sports. The proposal included one grouping sports event and five singles sports. The purpose of this event is to shape the readiness of the women athletes for the forthcoming championships. UAE’s representative presented the unified platform for Gulf women’s sports which featured a unified digital identity for female players, an official and accredited website for viewing sports news about women’s sports relevant to Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Moreover, the platform will include also a unified platform that highlights on the sporting organisation’s role in the GCC countries for developing the women’s sports in the gulf countries.
Oman showed during the meeting their proposal which was about launching of “ Gulf Women’s Sports Hackathon” under title of “ An active and sustainable community”. The Hackathon is a specialized program in the field of Gulf women’s sports through which aim to research, analyze and innovate applicable ideas and business models through scientific and methodological foundations based on bringing models. The project will focus on coming up with the largest possible number of proposals, programs and initiatives that can be worked on and implemented socially.
