Basic Principles of Sports Governance Course Concludes

The Basic Principles of Sports Governance course, which was organized by Oman Olympic Academy (OOA) for a period of three consecutive days, was concluded last Thursday evening, under the supervision of the lecturer, Dr. Khalifa bin Mohammed Al-Fatehi.

The closing ceremony was sponsored by Abdullah bin Muhammad Bamakhalaf, the treasurer of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), and more than 25 participants from the cadres working in sports institutions and relevant authorities represented in OOC, sports federations and committees, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, sports clubs, and the Directorate of Military Sports participated in the course.

The course included theoretical lessons and practical applications in many axes, including the origin and history of governance and its concept, objectives, determinants and stages of governance, the concept of corruption, reading in the job fraud report, and governance indicators and frameworks. The Saudi experience in club governance and the Lean methodology was also reviewed. The lecturer touched on governance in the Oman 2040 vision, goals and indicators of governance and institutional performance, and the challenges of implementing governance in sports organizations. In addition to reviewing international efforts in the field of sports governance. The course also included a practical workshop for training in analyzing and solving problems, and short assessment tests for the participants.

On the other hand, OOA will organize from December 5-7, its last approved course for this year, which focuses on school sports and talent discovery. To discover talents, and the importance and stages of sports selection, during the course, international experiences and recent studies and research in this field will be reviewed.
